do you realize how many fish and herps are wild caught and floating around the pet trade. maybe people should think about this before they spout off. sure many are captive bread, but they still are all from wild origin. cut the kid some slack.

Well why bother mentioning this then? Are just posting an invalid argument for the point of it? I don't see the point mentioning any of the above unless your trying to say I keep WC, or are you changing your story now because you have been proved wrong. I NEVER said it was illegal to collect them there, I said it might well be, but I don't know (go and check facts before you post a reply please cause I find this pointless replying to something that actually has no meaning..). I also said on my first post that IMO I think it is wrong to take animals from the wild. I kind of agree with BloodyIrish. Maybe for specialized breeding where there is no other way about it.. but not just for the sake of keeping a pet. You will be a better pet keeper just for having the decency to buy, yes buy a CB specimen. I would find this alot more pleasing than trying to house an animal that has known different (and better) , which habitats you can just not reacreate/match too. Maybe he doesn't wanna waste money? Who knows.. But IMO (just so you don't get this wrong again!) It's wrong, especially if he never had the stuff to keep it in the first place. I'll repeat what pond you going to keep this in? :)

that was a general statement. i never said...you keep wc fish/herp species. my point was that many people are keeping wc animals and dont even know it. once again...dont get offended. i am not pointing at you. you seem like a very sensitive person. how can i be "proven wrong" if you cant even grasp the simplicity of that statement?

why must everyone get angry... see the trouble is people write something and are thing a certain way... then person 2 comes along reads it and thinks it was meant this way... You are both wrong... You don't even know each other how can you be singling eachother out? Relax... how about the topic of helping the guy with his turtle...He has it now, so lets help...

i gave him much info. to help him out. i just get mad when peoples advice to him is..."you shouldnt have caught it". hello! he has it! so why not provide some fruitful information.

Can't even grasp the simplicity? Sorry, but on computer it is hard to tell how things are meant. I mean its not that hard to think it was aimed that way after quoting something I had said is it? But if you didn't mean it like that fair enough.

... You are both wrong... You don't even know each other how can you be singling eachother out

Wrong about what exactly? And honestly, I am not singleing anybody out, just because we are discussing more with eachother than others doesn't mean we are singleing. :)

Err read the text.. it's the first thing I did was give my advice whether you agree with what I said or not :)

I said take it back.. not you shouldn't have caught it. I gave fruitful information. If you can't care for an animal, don't take it from the wild. The same goes for buying them too.
:)

dying thread... help meeeee... I'm dying.....

DEAR GOD!!! You guys want the honest truth on buying wildcaught and captive bred herps? The truth is the money you spend on ANY herp is just supporting the inhumane treatment of herps. I know alot of you are going to disagree but think about this. If there was no demand for herps, there would be no reason to capture them and ship them in tiny little crates stacked 5 high on top of each other. There would be no reason for the ridiculously high death rate in wildcaught herps for the pet trade. I know you think that you're doing something good by purchasing captive bred but in reality, that captive bred herp's parents, grandparents whatever were wildcaught. This is ridiculous, all the guy/gal did was ask for help with a turtle he found. He thought he was doing something right by "rescuing" it from the situation. In all honesty the little guy probably wouldn't have made it another month in the wild. You guys act like he is catching them in mass and marketing them for sale. Also, to the original poster, I will take him when he is too big for you to handle, seriously. He will go to live with my brothers snappers in their giant outdoor pond here in florida. Just save me to your buddy list and in 5, 10 years when he's too big to handle, just let me. Now, can we please try to act civil towards one another? I think we are going to scare everyone off if we bombard them like this when they ask for help. :):):):):):):)
Look, I put a ton of smiley faces so everyone will know I meant no harm by this post LOL.
Sorry if I offended or got under anyones skin, just speaking from experience here. The pet trade is pretty nasty when you get inside it.

To be honest the captive bred to wildcaught argument is for another thread, not this one. Personally i think it is quite obvious the positives over captive bred. Obviously all pets originally come from "the wild", but you don't see problems with people keeping dogs, hamsters, gerbils etc. They are captive bred that's why. If you can't see the future of captive bred, then I think it is very sad. Like i said though- not one to discuss here, theres already been enough de-railment and heated debates for one thread.
