This is the Geater Oilfish, (Comephorus baikalensis) from Lake Baikal, Siberia. it is 25%-34% fatty oil and burns like a candle. It is also used to make a local anti arthritis rub.
You got it Oddball, I just like the common name, "Mouth Almighty", that crachs me up almost as much as the "bass ass wrasse" or for that matter the genus name of my previous post the "come phor us".
I need to check this thread more often, LOL! I would have gotten the oilfish... I even have this pic on my comp and have had it there for months.
Anyway, here are some other pics from Lake Baikal, not my pics of course, lol. Three species of endemic sculpin species, the endemic Baikal sponge, and, of course, the oilfish (which is also endemic to Lake Baikal). Ahem... sorry to derail, just had to shoot some pics in here while we're on the subject of Baikal, LOL.
