Since you put it that way how about Apteronotus magdalenensis

Nope. A. leptorhynchus maxes out at under 10" and this fish was at about 12" at the time that the pic was taken.
 
Okay, some in the right size range that I can't find pics of, A. anas (now called Parapteronotus hasemani), A. apurensis, A. ellesi, and A. eschmeyeri.
 
Yep, it's A. anas. I wasn't aware of the name change, thanks for that info! The funny thing is that I was I about to start trying to contact someone about revising it's genus, LOL.
