hey juan, I am also in south florida and catch pbass all the time (although nowhere near as many as you). I recently found one in my minnow trap, and am trying to grow him out. What species do you think he is?

Your baby Pea is a typical Florida PB fry very likely a hybrid Ocellaris/Monoculus.

Try feeding it adult Brine Shrimp and don't give up on the black worms. You should also be able to trap mosquito fish both babies and adults even this time of year. Now that the waters have receded they are also much easier to collect from lake shorelines. You can also keep a few of the adult mosquito fish and breed them in a small tank and have a never ending supply of feeders good for a few baby Peas.

You may also set out in your yard a dish full of water from your tank. In a few days you should have mosquito larvae to feed your fry.

Thanks man :)

temensis fry are usually long and skinny.. that one has a body shape a lot like an ocellaris. kinda cool looking IMO.. i think Dieselmack is right, i think it's a hybrid and needs to grow up and be amazing.

Very good observation. You are right the body shape is typical of all Florida Cichla fries I've raised.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Temensis color pattern on a PB with Ocell shape.:)

Can't wait to see this baby grow. After several days alone with many guppy fries it's now chubby and hopefully will get a growth burst.:nilly:

After almost three weeks my mystery Florida cichla fry has grown from less than 2 inches to over 3 inches:)

Here's its latest pictures. Sorry for the dirty glass
