Cant wait to get off work and watch them. So much to love about bowfin. Can have beautiful colors, the way they swim is awesome, their shape, patterns!!

the parasites load will definitely increase as the fish get older, and this is also based on large wild specimens. smaller captive specimens will either have them and die or they will survive. i highly recommend against de-worming at that small of size and young of age, but that's not to say it can't work...from time to time. as you said, later would generally be better. prazi-pro is what i use on my gars/bowfin if/when they get sick, but i have never used anything as a preventative measure (treating only if there is injury, visible parasites, signs of infection, etc). primitive fishes just don't respond to meds in the same way more derived fishes do, and therefore the risk is usually not worth it unless absolutely necessary IME--

true and i agree. i treated my big cats and rays often but i have only treated my gars once. the bowfins were treated because one of the 13" females i had vomited white worms and a few of them had white stringy poop that would get stuck. i treated them and never had that problem again. i made sure they were clean before i sold any.

Their color has darkened up a lot but I have yet to see them eat. I have tried black worms, brine shrimp, sinking pellets and earthworms.

I was told they were eating shrimp and fish cuts prior.

Got them eating tilapia and frozen brine shrimp. Unreal these guys arent more popular in the hobby.
