Guess who finally got a hoga

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
enjoy!

Never ever saw one live...

Miguel heres something to notice in these pics as to how to tell hoga apart from others. At that size, as mine is, and the ops fish is, you can clearly see a different body shape. Now that i see these pics its obvious hogas go from a very sloping pointed head to a very tall body to a kind of sloping shape at the back of the body.

Thats what i see. My .2

Sorry to derail your thread robert, i was just taking advantage of educational opportunity.

Hea looking great. Im sure with time youll have him looking amazing :)

Nice fin trailors on the new hogas, they look like very nice specimens.
And woofy, I agree, education is a beautiful thing.
And in that same spirit, I see what looks like a pearsei in the tank, you will need to at least double your tank size soon.

Good eye it is a pearsei. Hoga gets his own tank soon. Need him to be a show fish like fishman09 lol. I cant get a bigger tank. I have 6 tank I'm getting rid of a few more fish here soon. But thanks for the concern

beautiful! Good luck mate!

thak you guys for the "education", really.

Assuming all species within the Midas complex have barred forms, I still cannot figure out ( my fault, I know, but none of these is readily available in here; I have the first batch of Red Isletas to ever have appeared ):

Are they all ( Hooga, Amarillo, Isletas ) subspecies of Citrinellum?

How does one diferentiate between them ( looking at pix, the only I can try to feel sure about is the Amarillo due to the yellow )?

How does one know if one has a barred Citrinellum ( lets forget now about RD, Xialoensis, etc, because they alsohave barred varieties ) or a hoga, a Red Isletas or an Amarillo?

Am I being to specious? I really would love to know this inmore depth..:)

Miguel you make my head hurt, dont get me wrong i love you to pieces lol but i guess its just me from owning and raising them all that i see the differences. Ive raised all those 3 mentioned above from1" raised to 4" in the same tank and i never had trouble telling them apart.

There are body shape differences, red colors, base colors, barring, spots and even mouth differences.
Ive tried to show you before. You just gotta beat those images into your brain.
And i believe isletas are the ones that are cits. I could be wrong.

You know where to find me if you want more in depth explanation of the differences. I dont want to derail this thread.

You re just acknowledging i am right ( besides loving me to pieces :) ) even you are not certain.

I am certain. Im sure if someone tested me i could tell them apart. I just dont know how to explain it to others. Theres a method to my madness.
