Guess who got a new weeksi and pbb?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Shld Have Gotten the Kamihata bred...BTW. Nice PBB!

Would like to, but that would take about a year worth of savings

Besides, I'm a firm believer that a fish, no matter the origins, would look great if well taken care of

With the recent demand outside Japan for Kamihata PBB over the last few years, Kamihata have pretty much abandoned their selective breeding program.
The Kamihata PBB you see coming now are not even f1 anymore. Infact nowhere near.

So Choosing Kamihata over the recent Indo breeds makes no sense IMO.
Both are mass farmed.
WC is still the way to go, or Kamihata if you can locate (and afford) older F1 stock.

why is it that cb bred fishes are always lousy quality ? and sometimes with crooked fins to boot ?
I mean wouldn't it make sense for the breeders to breed the nicer ones and in so doing get better species ?

Not all CB are lousy.
Kamihata used to have outstanding quality, but since they started mass farming them it's gone a little downhill.

Old Kamihata were F1. So they will be pretty much as good as their wild parents.
It is when the mass farming and interbreeding starts thats when the genes suffer.

The Indonesian breeds that are in the market have defective genes in the finlets.
This is due to mass farming of them.

In some senses it would make sense to selective breed like Kamihata used to do, but the mass farming like these Indos is all about producing as many as possible to knock out at a cheap price.

Great pick-up, bro! I see you've gone ahead of me and own a PBB before I do :) Are the finlets straight or "kallang-waved"?

kallanged-waved haha!
