Guianacara Sphenozona

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually I'm not too sure that they are stergiosi - here is a thread of mine and some descriptions in the beginning (from the paper that formally describes the species): http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237890

The lateral spot on your fish seem to be higher. Note picture #2 in my thread - it's the dominant male and the spot is entirely below the lateral line.

I thought that too peathenster, until I looked up the line drawing in the paper you sent me. It shows the spot being bisected near the top for stergiosi. I suppose we can always do scale counts.

These guys are the worst - they are so similar that I don't know how meaningful it is to classify them into different species.

I wouldn't say the worst ... try the northern clade port cichlids on sometime.

Thanks guys for the 101. I'm glad to finally know what they are. I think they are a really cool species, and have a lot of character. They are one of the only fish I have that like to stay still and get their pic taken.

whatever it is i like it alot!

GREAT looking fish!!!!!

Thanks peathenster. I have a clay pot, and a cave made of some rocks. They show interest in each other, and like to hang around the pot, but nothing yet. Maybe they would feel more comfortable in a tea cup.
