Guinea Fowl

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I love eating pheasant and Guinea hens one of my Aunts used to raise them years ago.

I have tens of them in the farm. Everybody who has fowl has them.

Put them with the chicken as soon as possible and make them get used to feeding with the chicken.

If you are afraid, trim their flight feathers. Absolutely no harm done in that. Next molt they will grow again.

The chicken chicks are bigger and about 2 weeks older but the keets are catching up in size. I hope to introduce each other within in a week or so. I hadn't thought about clipping the wings but I may give that a shot. They will both be penned up together for sometime before I let them free-range the property. Thanks for the pointers Miguel!

Grew up with them on the farm and one time I penned keets with baby wild turkeys in same pen...and never saw the guinea fowls again after joining up the wild turkey flock along with my "wild" turkeys when I let them out of the pen.

One of the farms I goose hunt on boarders a farm with a flock of about 40 fowl. If you don't mind the constant noise they kept the combined farms tick free for the most part. They were free range fowl and they hung out within a 300yd circle of the roost house. Most of their time was spent with 100' of the house. I have grown to hate/dislike them due to the constant noise. They never shut up. That being said I hate ticks more so when I have my hobby farm I will have a large group with my chickens.

tho I always wanted to try a smoked guinea fowl.

Can't tell you what they taste like... They stayed out of 10gauge range.

I always try to call the neighbors' guinea fowls in the range from time to time to see if I can nail one of these things. The guinea fowls sure likes to roaming so far away from their owners' place during daylight but almost always came back.
