Guineas, chickens, and turkeys oh my!

Lol ik when we had our they would constantly talk. Lol it wasn't too bad tho only having 6 of em but they sure do get loud, especially when the kids decide to try to pick one up without permission. Also if one of the cats would walk by em the chicks would just go mental thinking that it's going to eat em.

My birds are so used to the cats they don’t really pay any attention to them. Same with my two adult dogs. They don’t mind them, unless they run right past them. My pup.... they really dislike him. For good reason, he nearly killed one of my hens back on the 4th. I still can’t believe she is alive. Poor girl is nearly plucked clean, lots of puncture wounds and one big gash under her neck? She rejoined the group a few days ago and is acting totally normal

Hate to be overly aggressive but a sword or an axe and a tree stump have worked well for me. Just make sure the kids understand the bird is going to run around headless for a hot minute. Quite the site, I'll spare you the fine details.

If you are really up for the task the tried and true wringing the neck works but feeling the crack in your hand takes some getting used to.

I think I’m leaning towards a cleaver and cone. I’m not sure the kids or I could handle a headless bird running around. ?

There are some more subtle ways to get the job done. Those are just the methods I have used.

Ours were only afraid of the cats as chicks. Once they were fully grown they bullied the cats around. Same with the 3 dogs we had.

I wish mine would bully my dogs!
I’m really hoping for a rooster in this batch I got. The silver laced chicks and Easter eggs are supposed to be females, so my Turkens might be my only hope for a rooster. If not, I’ll have to find someone local willing to trade a rooster for a hen. I’ll have more then enough hens. Lol

I’m pretty sad and frustrated. I’ve been losing one guinea keet each night. So my three “extras” have all died now. Two of those were my white ones? I figured with shipped birds we’d lose one or two, but with a pattern of one every night I’m wondering when it will end?
I’ll be watching them extra close from now on out to be sure everyone is doing as well as possible.

On a happier note... We replaced our 3’ chicken wire fence with 5’ fencing and expanded it out farther. We also have a real gate now. Haha. I’ll be painting it later today and then it will be finished. ?
Our new plan is to move the guineas out of this bin and over to the one I currently have our chickens in. I need my fil to come over and cut windows for me again. Till then I’ll be moving the chickens into their new fenced in run during the day? I’m sure they will like it a lot more then the small fenced in area I put them in right now. 9F226018-D0EC-4D83-BBF1-6780E2B9BD18.jpeg
That^^ will be a nice upgrade from this. F6FCCB44-349C-4E8F-8F77-C0C80395E5C3.jpeg
