Anyone watching this?

This could get UGLY fast. While oil on beaches is relatively easy to clean and does little to no long term damage, oil in marshlands is nearly impossible to clean and can wreak havoc on such an important and delicate ecosystem.

The areas that this oil spill will impact have economies mostly based on tourisim and commercial fishing (oysters and shrimp especially and of course these creatures will be very hard hit by the oil). They have barely been brought back to normal after several major hurricanes and are having to face yet another disaster.

Lets all hope and pray the leak is sealed as soon as possible and very little damage is done for both the people and wildlife in the region.

they should be ok. they are about to light off some of it

Actually its leaking faster now and should hit land by tomorrow night. At this point its no where near ok and only getting worse. It could take weeks or even months to stop the leak.

yeah this is pretty bad. read an article thats says its now spilling at a rate of 5000 barrels a day, or 210,000 gallons. that is A LOT of oil

A-Lusion, your post baffles me. At first you seem to slam the industry by saying they are responsible yet the rest of your post is pro-drilling.

I do agree with you and I am pro-American sourced energy (oil, coal, natural gas, and renewable energy sources). Accidents do happen, we are human. Until the day comes, if it ever will, when we find an economicaly feasible energy source that is safe and clean, we will have to continue to rely on fossil fuels. I do have a feeling that even when/if that day comes, people are still going to find a fault in it somehow.

I have'nt heard too much more about the spill that threatened the Great Barrier Reef recently and now we have this.

I am surprised how quiet the media has been on this. I suppose they are going to wait until they can get pics of an oil soaked pelican before it will make the news.

Looks like Mississippi is going to get the brunt of this. Starting this weeked the winds will be coming out of the sout/south-west moving the slick towards Miss, AL, and FL. In a few weeks the summer weather pattern will set in with winds continued from that direction continuing to bring the oil east.

again, they are in the process of tryin to burn some of it to try and contain it. nothing to get all huff and puff about. it will get fixed and they have emergencie plans in place if it does get too close to the shore they have stuff to put in front of it.

Are you paying attention to this? They are burning way less then 1% of it. The spill is leaking 5x faster now. This will be bad and do you really think there are enough barriers to cover hundreds and hundres of miles of coast line?
