Landfall is now expected sometime tonight in Louisiana.

Mining deaths weeks ago now this disaster...clean energy wakeup call. Solar and wind have huge potential and aren't being utilized to the extent possible. We need to get past the crutch of oil/coal/gas and the powerful companies behind them.

Hell the main page of CNN was interesting today with the oil spill but also a story on an approved off shore wind farm. Which had to go through hurdles to move forward.

damn, didnt hear it got bigger

disregard earlier statements. lol

Two mining deaths today in my home state of KY as well.

We do need to move towards alternate/cleaner energy sources but as of now, oil is the cheapest energy available and until an energy source is found that is cheaper then oil, we are stuck with it. Oil by FAR yields the most $$$ per dollar. It would be relatively easy to convert the energy in our homes to other sources but it would cost billions, maybe trillions, to replace ever oil consuming vehicle/machine to an alternate energy source. This wont happen in our life time nor our childrens life time.

Also, I will bet that the these alternate energy sources will most likely still be owned and operated by the giants in the oil industry today. Not that that is a bad thing of course. I just wouldnt be surprised that in the next 50-100 years we are refueling our vehicles with an energy source provided by BP or Chevron!!

Atomic energy is WAY under utilized in this country. However, just like the oil industry, accidents can happen and truth is, an atomic disaster could make all the oil spills and all the mining deaths combined look small.

I hate how all the sea life is taken for granted because we dotn see these great fish all the time...

The local TV stations are saying it will reach the coast of Louisiana (just south of where i live) sometime tomorrow which will totally disrupt our local wildlife and economy.

Lets not forget the 11 men that lost there life when the rig blew!!!
What makes me mad is that 2 hours after the rig cought fire there were already comercials for lawyers on the radio for family members of this disaster to call them.

....not looking forward to this weekend. I'll definately be volunteering where they will have me when it hits.

There is no stopping this from coming on shore, the key is trying to control where you want it to come ashore. The local media will be the only media covering this until at least next week. The national media is on the nuts of the illegal immigrants... this Saturday is May 1st (May Day... Socialism day). Remember the protest few years ago? The protest this Saturday might be even bigger. The national media will be all over this... the oil spill(leak) will be on the back burner until at least Tuesday. Hopefully the wind changes direction.... that is the only hope the coastline has.

The cleanest and cheapest is nuclear power... I don't know why America is against this. Oil is the cheapest right now but if we start making nuclear plants... it will be cheapest.

Also America has more oil then the whole Middle East combine... our Shale Oil deposits in the Rocky Mountain is in the 1.8 TRILLION barrels range. Up to 800 BILLION is recoverable. The only reason nuclear and our oil deposits are not being exploited is because of politics.

I turned on my television this morning and our local stations were covering the spill as well as CNN....Interesting that you say the U.S. has more oil than the Arab countries combined,I'd like to look into that as I've never heard that before...don't remember hearing it anyway.....I really feel for the people who make their living on the coastline that will be affected, this may take years before the environment recovers....Some animals probably won't.
