Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just heard about this today. This is the exact reason why I hate oil drilling. I really hope they can stop it ASAP. The marshlands in the south coast are amazing, seeing them destroyed would be a tragedy.

This is so upsetting, short term and long term results of this disaster can be devastating (or shall I say IS devastating)

this is such a horrible situation. for the first 20 years of my life my parents had a holiday home in tampa florida so I spend a lot of time on the gulf coast of florida when growing up.

fishing
eating shrimp
catching and eating blue crabs etc.
boating
birding
etc etc.

the damage this could cause is tremendous. and then there is all the reefs around the Florida Keys too..

not to mention all the fishermen/women who earn their living from the ocean. and the fishing guides etc.

if our worst fears come true, this is devastating on so many levels..:(

I think Tampa and the Florida Keys would be pretty safe from this. Can't say the same about the Northern Florida parts of the Gulf Coast.

Actually, FWC is already set to take action planning for it to impact all the way down. We're on alert for taking in animals down here, and making changes to get ready for a massive influx of rescues.

So in order for BP to put the dome on the “Geyser”, won’t they need to remove the oil rig first that is sitting on top of the opening? And how are they going to remove the rig that is 10 stories high? Do they even have the equipment to go down there and see what the situation is and remove the rig? 5000 feet below, the pressure must be so great. What if and the if is high probability the dome won’t work? What is the next step, or do they even have next step? There is no way the nuclear option is even possible. They will let this leak for months and find another solution to even think about it. Just my opinion.

They are really down playing the situation because it is an American oil company. If it were a foreign company you can be sure it will get blown out of proportion by the media, politicians, and general public. Such double standard.

This reminds me of the Toyota car break fiasco because it is a foreign company they get more scrutinized while American cars failed and rolled over all day long and a simple recall just does the trick. No class action lawsuit or maximum fines.
