suprised this thread is still around, i treated with full dosage of each maracyn product, which cured most of the columnaris, the last few days of treatment i used kannaplex, and my fish came back to life quickly, eyes cleared right up and ulcers fell off the skin, both fish were extremely weak though at this point with constant doses of medication and no appetite for a full month, unfortunately my fish were finally cured and during final tank cleaning to remove all meds from the water i left the guard of my powerhead and after coming home from purchasing some food for them, my powerhead was the one well fed, one of the gulpers was lodged in the intake, and unfortunatly did not survive, the other one went on to survive but i sold a few months back as i didnt want to use a 55 for one fish and couldnt afford a few more gulpers

:) Thanks for the info ;)

no problem, if your fish dont seem to be showing a severe outbreak you may want to treat at half dose, my fish had full blown ulcerations all over there body due to the fact i initially treated for ich, and high temps ulcerated the entire body of my gulpers in a matter of 12 hours, and when columnaris gets that bad your most likely gonna lose your fish quick so i resorted to drastic measures and medicated at full dosage, you also want to make sure yo diagnose the problem properly as if i did from the start it wouldve been alot easier to treat my fish, but if your sure its columnaris i would recommend kanaplex from the start as its easy to administer and from expierience works better, not sure if columnaris is your problem, i think you stated your fish turning a golden color through out its entire base color, when i was having my problems i talked to someone on this forum that lost 3 gulpers that way , he lost 1 and then his other two a week later and couldnt figure it out, i'll try to be of as much help as i can as i know how much of a pain these fish can be

also maracyn and maracyn 2 are not the same one treats gram positive bacterial infections and the other treats gram negative, i used both because theres alot of debate behind columnaris being gram positive or gram negative, among all the research i did i came out confused and just used both medications as they can be used together, kanaplex treats most gram positive and some gram negative bacterial infections if thats any help and worked the best for me
