Gulper Catfish tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep, definitely! Im just taking my sweet time in setting up the tank. Will post update pics soon. Got a question though, will it be deadly for the gulper if he ate a striped raphael cat? Hehe
I've never owned a striped raphael, so i dont know :D

I just couldnt resist when i saw two neat raphaels over at a good pet store here. They were cheap as well, so i bought them haha for now they're in the gulper's tank. Im not really sure if they'll be safe from the gulper given that theyre really armored but if the gulper tries to swallow them and gets hurt in the process, that would be terrible. Now cant decide wether to keep em in the 50 or transfer them to my upperjaw bichir tank

Raphs are great cats! I'd say keep them with the gulper but give them a place to hide where the gulper can't fit into. Believe me raphs can get themselves into the tightest of crevices and cracks where as a gulper's fat stomach inhibits their ability to squeeze into tight areas. Just be sure to drop some pellets in after dark for them.

I dont know man.... every vid of the gulper indicates that they are sneaky patient....just sitting there chilling the fish swims towards the gulper and bam!

Sweet! Just remember that if your gulper eats a tankmate -especially a spiny raph- do not try to pull it out with tweazers. The guy at my lfs who sold me my gulper said that one of their costumers tried that and it ruptured the gulpers stomach or something like that.
Also, make sure you have fast tankmates -and I mean fast. Mine now lives in a 120 and he ate a synspilum his own size. And sinspylum are far from slow -at least mine was. But as long as if he grabs something in his mouth dont try to take it out and keep him with large fast tankmates you should have 2 happy, pudgy, little gulpers.
