I know gulper catfish will eat almost anything thats not bigger then themselves (getting to 12"), but in a 125, what other fish could i keep.
I was thinking a lima shovel nose may work as they get about 16", but would a gulper try to eat it since its narrow (even though its to long to swallow)? Another thing i thought of is a large oscar. I dont think a gulper could eat a 14" o, but would the o hurt the cat? What about a jaguar cichlid or festae?

Any other thoughts. Its a standard 125g (6x1.5'). Its semi planted and i want to plant almost heavily in most plarts (leaving 2/3 of substrate bare). I would like to keep plants and fish that wont destroy them, but if i really like the stocking, i will remove them.

Filtration is good which is an xp3, eheim 2217 and a penguin 250B (wich i want to replace with an ac 110 i have- not sure if this will happen since i would have to move the tank further from the wall (might do if painting the room) to fit the fat aquaclear.

I prefer any more predatory fish.
gulper and lsn are bottom dwellers mostly, so what are some larger mid to top range fish?
I dont want to upgrade the tank so i dont want anything like arows

anything three times bigger than it would be good i think. aside from that feeders. :D

3X bigger then the gulper? Then that would mean the fish would have to be 3ft? I dont think a gulper at 11-12" could possibly swallow something like an adult jaguar

exactly. twice it's length is not a problem for gulpers. it won't be named gulpers in the first place for nothing. it lives to it's reputation.

So everybody is saying there are no tank mates other then other gulpers for this tank size?

How much room would 1 gulper need (dividing the tank to sections)

gulpers don't grow that big, a 75G i think would be sufficient, the problem is with it's tankmates, it would pretty much engulf tankmates twice it's size.

If you keep the gulpers well fed you can have tank mates with them. I had five gulpers in a 135g they each get one jumbo shrimp every other day. I had five electric yellow cichlids with them for several months and they never touched them. My gulpers won't even look at small fish. I also had a 12" marble catfish with them but it was just to crowded so I found the marble cat a better home.

I just upgraded to a 210g tank and have four gulpers in it. Im looking at adding some red hook SD's and either a blk aro or jardini. And I have no worries about the gulpers eating them because I keep them well fed ;)
