Hey guys I'm new to MFK always used this place for info for fishkeeping.
I've read bout every gulper thread here just want to let that be known first.
I attempted keeping gulpers in the past the 2 I had ended up with same problem alot of ppl have with them meaning the white bumps, slime coat coming off staying at the surface disoriented. I'm just wondering if anybody here has figured out the problem with them? and not being able to keep them alive long term. It's a fish I truly want to try to keep again loved the 2 I had before got pretty bummed out when they died. If anybody has any info to help it's much appreciated.

Think gulpers gotta be kept in black water and that may solve it.

Thank you kno4te if I give it another shot I will give that a try and report back how it goes. Do you think some peatmoss under the substrate with some driftwood would give enough of a blackwater effect? , I've got well water ph stays 7.3-7.5 havent tested it with peatmoss or driftwood yet.

Can try with the peat moss and see. Can always make tannins and add that way.

Basically like a Blackwater extract? I havent searched the forum yet to see if theres a thread on how to make it, any certain way youd reccomend? I wasnt sure dont it involved boiling down stuff like Indian almond leaves, or peat moss to make a concentrate of it or just let it all soak and use the tannins that way. Really tempted to order the gulpers now lol

Here’s a thread with Duane’s mentioning how he does tannins. tlindsey tlindsey also does this too. Not too difficult.

I seen another member on here keeping other woodcats specifically trachys with his gulper with no problems, you guys think since there same family of catfish this may be an option or too risky still? Really think some gulpers with a jag cat would be awesome ,but fine with species only tank ,Hopefully he will run into this thread as well

Trachy s get big and are aggressive. Smaller gulpers could get bullied. I’d not try the mix but just IMO.
