the arowana seems to be spooked after seeing the Gulper eat the carp/ Longshot yes they can get bigger than 10 inches.. depending on the tank size and diet of course.

Here's mine, he tried to attack my datnoid @ night o...o'' but it's too big for him to eat thou! 
The gulper is around 6" and my dat is around 10" 
I made him a foot long slate cave to hide during the day, but he still prefer to stay in the corner
