Gulper sick/injured HELP!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As we always kept our trachies in bigger tanks, I'd not know on the minimum requirement firsthand. I think what Kolt is saying is great.

Ours seemed happy to jam themselves between large (ugly but functional) concrete blocks or between a block and front glass, with or without a roof.

I’ll keep that in mind when setting up the next tank. It’s good to go,just needs to cycle. I’ve been building caves with rock/slate pieces. But it worries me that they could get pinned if they knock it over while inside.they seem to be very strong fish. I’ll definitely setup a couple large rocks in the back he can wedge himself in. I’ve blacked out the rear glass and plan to do the same with the side panels…I’ve been feeding every other day,2-3 silversides. Dropped some massivore pellets in one day but I don’t think he ate them. Maybe in time I can broaden his diet ?

If you would like to see your fish all the time, consider front glass to be one of the walls of the hide. Otherwise, you'd rarely see it. IMhumO, losing much point in keeping the fish altogether.

What Viktor says is a good way of making sure you can always see your fish and I used to employ similar tactics in the past and may in the future. It can become especially handy in monitoring your catfishes overall health and eating habits. I will admit though that currently all my hides provide me no view of my cats but I do find it entertaining because I have some tanks that are just catfish that look completely empty of fish that suddenly come to life when I introduce food.

I’ll keep this in mind when I move him to the new growout. The hide he is in now is facing the glass on one end,so I’ve been able to see him,and feed him easily. Since he’s been there nearly a month,I’ll transfer that cave for him. I like your use of blocks,so I may have to implement that method!

Thinking of doing 2 nice hides and the rest rock/driftwood. At least he’ll have a bit of swimming space if he wants it. He’s still yet to come out for food. Maybe if I skip a few meals he will come out for it. Hand feeding probably isn’t creating good habits, though. Why hunt when the food comes to you ?
