I have a 3 inch or so gulper ate a 6 inch cichldi!! i have no idea how he did it! they were both behind something. THis is a big 125 gallon tank and the gulper came out massive. I have pictures of him.

HOw long will he take to digist this? And now is going to go after all the huge fish? I knew they could eat bigger fish then themselves but i didnt think that these cichlids could fit in his mouth he was with them for a while.

Another thing is is feeding, he is always hiding if i put food in the tank like a raw fish for a whole shrimp will he find it and eat it? rather than putting it in front of his mouth? will he find things and eat them like other cat fish? he just seems to look up all the time.

after eating this i imagine hes not going to eat for a week?

I am seriously interested in the mentioned pictures!

Not surprising. If a fish can be folded / rolled up like for instance an arowana, a gulper can eat a prey that 3x+ longer than it is. 2x longer is usually not much of a problem for a gulper.

If no competition, that is no one else picks up the food, a gulper will definitely eat what it finds at night.

I got the gulper wild caught for a really really cheap price lower than cost. There were 2 of them. I had a chance to take both. THey are in amazing condition. Anyone would have done it. They are never offered here. When they are offered they are 150. I got mine for 60.

It may take only 2-3 days if your water's 85 F. in colder water, it will take longer. I'd feed when his tummy goes back to roughly flat, the way it was before it swallowed the cichlid.

My gulpers face upward often too. I don't think it means anything with respect to how they feed. My guys know when and how the food appears, so they come up.
