My tanks are usually bare and the lighting's dim, so I don't know. Mine swim in and around one spot all day long. One of them was able to find a tight spot once and would stick himself in there.
They are a wood catfish, which are in general fanatical hiders and light haters. I just don't know how much it applies to gulpers in particular - they are an unusual species.
