gulper wont eat...

Seems like what I went through, I had one around 6" that would eat and eat when I first got home, consumed barracudas, jaguar cichlids, prawns, krill, market shrimp, etc.. After a few weeks he just stopped eating, I threw a pike cichlid in there he mouthed it and thats it, he would hold shrimp in his mouth and then just spit it out. He passed away after about 2 months of this. Good luck just be very careful, I couldn't get mine off his hunger strike.

I mentioned this in kido's thread, but I figured I would mention it here too. One of my gulpers goes on these hunger strikes. He most recently was refusing food for almost 2 weeks. I've had luck on two occastions getting him to eat by feeding after doing large partial water changes.

I just did a 40% water change on Saturday morning and he was eating by noon. Figured it may be worth a try.

Just a shot in the dark, Ive never had a gulper, but other fish refuse to eat sometimes because they have internal parasites. Ivee seen fish who had internal parasites who did just what you describe: take the food in their mouth and then spit it out like they dont want it. If you want to give it a try, treat with metrodizanole, and follow-up with a de-wormer food. If I were you Id research internal parasites and metro before you do this, unless you know about it already, in order to ensure youre doing the right thing (in other words, dont just take my word for it!).

finally, my gulper ate just a while ago.. i tried feeding an anchovy w/o head and he finally down it.. i only fed one though, will check if she eats again tomorrow.. see if this gets yours to eat..

@gonnelro: i've used metro before on cichlids so i have an idea how it works.. what dewormer food would you suggest me and channarox to use?

That's awesome kido!!! I'm glad to hear your guy ate.

The only hesitation I would have against using any sort of meds is that gulpers are pretty sensitive to this stuff. I would only add meds if the symptoms truely warrant the medication. If you want to play it safe, try salt...that will assist with parasites and secondary fungal infections and you're able to avoid the medication route.

yea.
im not sure about hte meds cause gulpers are sensetive to it.
but im gonna try some salt.
brine shrimp?
isnt that too small?
i'll go buy some and try anyway.
kido,congratz!
just hope i can get my gulper to do th same.
cant do any water change today,so busy!
nowadays,my water change schedule is wierd.
last week i did a 15 percent water change everyday.
