Okay so mabye i am sick but i bought a bunch of guppies (mostly female) for my 55 gallon corner tank to act as dither fish and produce yummy yummy babies for my new leopard ctenopoma.

so far they are all sitting at the very top of the water in a corner and are not swiming or hiding in my nicely planted tank.

Is this normal behaviour for guppies as they settle in?

most new fish i have dart strait for the tree line as it were.

Thanks.

What is the temperature? What is the pH?

Guppies spend most of their time on the top. How long have they been in the tank? I'm sure they'll start swimming around soon.

temp is 76 ph is 6.8 (lots of Tannic acid in the water for the ctenopoma) but near enought to netrual that it shouldnt bother the guppies

and they have been in for about 6 hours

Parameters sound good.

They should be fine, they are probably just chilling at the top. As long as they are swimming normally, and you don't sense anything wrong, I wouldn't worry.

Mine always did that, especially when they are about to give birth, you can buy guppies and 8/10 times they are with seed when you buy them.

sweet!

btw do you think the bushy plants below are enough for the fry to hid in or do you think the few ghost shrimp will just devour them all?

or any suggestions for plants for the babies to hide in before becoming food

Some floating plants may help... Fake ones would be easiest so you can change it if that doesn't work.

Thanks
i will check into floating plants

but i think if i get any they will be real as i can not stand fake plants. I like my tanks to be as living as possible

I dont know if thats good but i know your not getting some yummy babies theres
all males no females
