Another vote for pellets. IME, those fish aren't particularly picky eaters (never kept a ghost knife, tho). The only fish i feed live are my needle nose gars. They just won't eat it if it's not swimming around. That being said, I feed them guppies that breed freely in my 125.

Pellets FTW!

Feeders are more of a once a week thing you do to show off your fish to your friends.... In fact its the best way to get your freinds interested in the hobby!

'Feeding time' can really show off the speed and beauty of your fish. Many friends have gained a growing interest in the hobby simply by watching. You cannot deny that the occasional Live feeding inst an incredible display of Power and beauty.

Watching Pbass nom some gold fish is what got me interested in fish in the first place.

:iagree:

If your friends gain interest in fish keeping simply because they saw your fish eat feeders, that is the beginning of an irresponsible fish keeper.

There is absolutely no evidence supporting your OPINION.

This is how I got interested and I maintain many properly cared for tanks and fish.

Interests are often sparked by seeing something that impresses us.

Im not going to derail this thread further based on a difference of opinion.

CHEERS :D

I am a fan of feeders. It sad to me to see a fish beautifly designed for hunting and killing reduced to begging for food. I of course feed all my fish prepared food (most of the time) except for my knifefish. The highlight of his day is taking hours to hunt a big strong fish. Of course I don't just feed him "feeder fish" as these are bad nutrition, not to mention the thiaminaise problem. I breed platies and cichlid to feed him.

As for the diet balance issue brought up earlier, This is why i feed him my own fish. he eats big fat platies that I've raised in my own tanks feeding heaviliy with a balanced diet. This way I can make sure he gets proper nutrition. In addition i feed him shrimp and crustacions.

As for guppies, at least for my knifefish (he is a ck), they are his least favourite food. If i put many different kinds of fish in there, he eats SA tetras first, carp and larger livebearers second, and leave the guppies for last. I don't think he thinks they taste very good. Platies are better feeders IMO, they get bigger and have more babies
