guys i have a 4ft tank. and have a black arowana, gar, knife fish and a polypterus (if im not wrong) and when ever i put guppies in it to feed them they all hide under the plants and logs and they cant hunt for them as the places are too cramp for them to go in what should i do? Should i take everything out and even the gravel?

First. Its a normal behavior for fish to try to hide when they're feeling threatened. Its a survival thing. Leave decor alone it would provide little bit security for the fish instead of the fish banging themselves on the glasses.

Second. Are they new fish? Once they learn that you're feeding them food they will start to trust you more.

Third. Live guppies/goldfish are not the best thing to do due to introducing parasites in the tank.

Good luck on your fishkeeping :)

4 feet long is okay as long the fish are small. I'm sure you're planning on growing them out for a bigger tank am I correct?

They are less then a week... so if i dun feed them guppies what should i feed them? will catfish do? oh yea on about them growing, i dun really need them to be very big :) just 1/3 size of the tank i'm already glad..

Awesome. Try to train them on pellets. I'm sure many aro/bichir keepers will chime in.

Many MFKERs do massivore pellets and prawns, shrimps, cut up fish pieces. ETC

Catfish is fine but need to grow out those fellas before trying grow out catfish because catfish can easily grow fast and eat their tankmates if fit in their mouths. Wait for your fish grow then get catfish later.

They're so scared right now as they're just new fish trying to adjust to their environment. Try to leave the tank alone as much as possible to reduce stress on the fish and keep the water clean as possible to avoid them getting sick easily. BY THE WAY CONGRATULATIONS!

well thanks! but will pellets affect the colour of my black arowana? i'm scared his tail wont be bright as now

i have a black arowana myself and i mostly feed him freeze dried shrimp and his tail is more colorful than any other black ive seen. he gets pellets and aro sticks every now and then too along with the occasional goldfish. mine was shy for the first couple weeks and wouldnt eat if i was standing too close to the tank but now that hes grown up some hes the quickest to find food in my tank
