GUYS! NEED CRAYFISH HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh, and REMEMBER THAT LIL' BASTARD HAS CLAWS...usually the wild ones are a bit more feisty than the store bought. If this one doesn't go so well you could get a yabbie...those crays are from australia and hit about a foot in length...ULTIMO POWA!!! message me if you have any specific cray questions.

well thanks for all the info! i droped a alage "sp?" wafer in his little hole today and a few carnivore pellets to. i tried to put a minnow on tongs and put it infont of hid hole but he didnt want it. hes been in there for about two weeks now and no nipped fins and the cray fish is perrfectly fine. so i geus well see what happens!

I've had two wild caught crays in a 50g with six 5"-8" goldfish now for years. They live longer than a few and as said before, they do require hiding but not a special diet. They are actually quite picky eaters and if not fed properly, will develope exoskeletal issues.
"Garbage dump" is a common falsity associated with crayfish in general. These animals are very capable both as predator and opportunist and are worth keeping if one is serious about its well being in captivity.
Just my 2¢

probably not bad for them, but i used to have to boil and remove the shell for our old goldfish, (read somewhere thats what you should do) and never got out of the habit. plus if the shells off the other fish can nibble at it till the crayfish gets there.

frozen shrimp works well too, drop some in my tank and the crays usually get to it and protect until they are full. Remove and un-ate shrimp in the morning...less luck with vegetables, but have seen them nibble here and there.

i try to catch crayfish in the stream behind me with a net and minnow holder (its like a bucket that has a cloing) but i never find any. how should i get them??

I hunt the shallows of a local stream, there are usually little pools that form, if you can block it off from the main stream so that there is less chance of escape. Start flipping rocks over, look for movement. It also helps to prep the area, position rocks so that crays can hide in certain areas. Go back and check to see if any have made a home of that you made. Or minnow traps work, wide mouth plastic bottles, cut the top, invert and place back into the bottle, punch in holes, bait with food, leave in water. You will catch something.
