My beloved 8 year old 16 inch long goldfish is lying on his side and gasping how can I save him? He is really beat up and red. I really need help.

When you say beat up, do you mean from another fish or it's just in bad shape? what are your water parameters, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate? What specific info can you give, when did this start? Describe symptoms as accurately as you can. Have you done anythig that would have altered it's environment in anyway?

Can you post a clear picture?

DSC02083.JPGDSC02084.JPGDSC02085.JPGAll of the water specks are fine. This started this morning. I did nothing to alter his habitat except moving him to the 20 gal hospital tank. He seems to be very week and unable to do anything but breath I have a pump pumping water on his face and this seems to help.

Looks like Hemorrhagic septicemia. Treat with Minocycline (Maracyn Two). Also add salt at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water to improve respiration, if you have or can get Methylene blue that may also be used with Minocycline and will help the blood oxigen transfer and speed recovery. MB is hard on BB so make sure to do your water changes between treatments. It might not be too late if you move fast, but it doesn't look good. Do a 50% water change add the salt and go to the store.

Nice paint job ;)

Where can I get maracyn two all of the local pet stores and amazon doesn't have it. There are places I can get it but it will take to long to get here. I gave his a dose api melifix. I did a 50% water change and dosed the water with salt. I put a pump in there so a current going into his gills. He was breathing very weakly but now he is a little stronger. Are there any other meds I could use to help him if I can't get maracyn two or methylene blue what else can I use.

You could try using API Triple Sulfa, what is the ph of your water? I would like to see something that is absorbed though. Kanamycin (Seachem Kanaplex if you can it) but if you can't go with the Triple sulfa. I would not recommend using any oil based preparations when breathing is an issue. Oils can coat the gills making respiration more difficult, I wish you didn't do that. You asked for advice and no where did I mention Pema or Melafix for this. Salt and MB if you can find it will help improve respiration MB also aids in oxygenation of the blood and will help relieve the stress the fish is under, salt will improve osmotic regulation and help it breath easier also but does not contain all the therapeutic properties of MB.

thanks I managed to find some api triple sulfa at petsmart. I don't know the ph my test kit is expired. The salt really help and I saw almost immediate improvement. I did a 100% water change to get rid of the melafix and I ordered methylene blue today.
