How are the fish doing? I live in Belgium and looking for tropical fish keeping in the pond, also in winter.

Since balzani are considered one of the most northerly Gymnos (north is warmer in South America) a better choice for Belgum would be the most southerly Gymnos or other species of Uruguay and Argentina (such as Gy australis etc).
Even then, I would imagine bringing them in a winter would be advisable.
When I lived in Wisconsin, my Gymnos were always brought inside from mid October thru end of April.
Belgium is found on the 50th parallel north, Wisconsin is on the 45th.

Just an FYI, You may find in the pond, most of these natural color cichlids disappear except certain times of the day, when sunlight hits perfectly.
From what I understand, some of these have become feral, in southern Portugal

Thanks for posting that; very interesting! Quite a few species listed on there that I found surprising. Piranhas, Black Ghost Knife, way more Gymnogeophagus species than I realized, tons of catfish/plecos, Motoro rays, etc. Makes you wonder what else could be kept in cooler tanks than we normally expect.

My local retailer/importer has an "ill-tempered" 24-inch-plus Jau catfish, and that's on the Uruguay list. Maybe in my outdoor pond year-round? :)
