Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this type of gymnogeophagus?  I was wondering what the best temperature for them is and is there a concern of cross-breeding with other gymongeophagus or geophagus if they are in the same tank?  Thank you

Although I don't keep this location variant, it is a Uruguayan and I keep a few Uruguayans, and thus, will need a cool down at some point.
Uruguay is sub-tropical not tropical, much the same as Georgia or southern California.
A drop into the 60sF for a few months, will do much for color and general health. They can be kept with Geos, but not all year round.
I keep Gymnos in my pond spring thru late fall where they encounter temps that range from the 50s thru the 90s. Colors are much better if a cool/rest down is provided. A heaterless tank is perfect for them, even where I live, on the same longitude as Toronto.

If my memory serves me right G. sp. Catalan is a Rhabdotus type of gymno. I'd worry about them cross breeding with other Rhabdotus types or exMeridionalis types. Two common species of this type you'll find that I wouldn't put in the same tank are G. sp. Norte and G. sp. Neon Blue. You are going to find most Gymnos are labeled Gymnogeophagus sp. somename, these are the collection location names. You won't have to worry about cross breeding with gymnogynes types (like Duanes' fish above), labiatus, australis, or balzanii.

As for temp just keep the tanks unheated and you'll be fine. My gymnos range from the high 50s in the winter to high 70s to low 80s in the summer. Good luck with them!
