gymnos in 86 degree water

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok thanks for the help im gunna try and get the temp down in my main tank over the next 2 days and see what happens

not going to mention any names...cough robmcd, went to rescue a few geos from him the other day hehe (btw thanks for the geos bro) anyways his tank was like 90 degrees. apparently he just plugged in his heater the night before from being disconnected for the summer. His geos were fine so thats proof they can withstand 90 temp for at least 1 night hehe. I'm sure he brought the temp down. I'd think any temp higher he'd have geo soup

Gymnos may last a while in higher temps, but are not from true tropical areas.
When I tried to keep balzani and the gymnogenys complex in warm water they became very aggressive, and later just wasted away.
Since I have finally figured this out,
I keep them outside in the summer and the water temps range from 454'F up to about 70. They have spawned in the pond and done well.

You probably be better off keeping them outside in a shaded area.

Guilty!!!! Thanks for calling me out Ed. I was gonna own up to it here. Yeah I had no heater all summer then plugged it in the other afternoon and set it on the lowest setting and by the next day the temp was in the low 90s. The fish were fine and really colorful though. I like to keep it in the low 80s most of the time then every once in a while turn it to 85+ to kill any possible ich bacteria chilling in the substrate... IMO 86 is fine....
