just a question on this to clear it up..when told to add salt..would That be refering to table salt or aquarium salt?

some will argue this and say to only use aquarium salt but truthfully many on here including myself use regular table salt, just make sure if doesnt have yellow prussiate as its anti-caking agent, find it without iodine if you can but really its in such a low amount that it wont hurt them either, i use the mortons that comes in the blue box and i have never had to use meds for treating ich, i always keep a box in my fish drawer though i havent had an ich outbreak in a while its always good to have it on hand just in case

Really the temp increase will kill the ich all by itself. If the temp is over 81 the ich cysts will all hatch out, however they will not move on to infecting the fish. After a couple weeks the ich will be dead from not having a host. If you get the temp over 84 it will kill the ich outright in a week. I actually bump the heat up in my tank for a couple weeks whenever I add a new fish for this very reason, as a preventative. I just wasn't sure how the Gymnos would tolerate this. This thread is especially interesting as I have been considering getting a group of Gymno Blue Flash...

A few weeks of 85º will not detrimentally affect G. balzanii. I would use heat and salt and avoid medication. Raise the temperature slowly and do frequent water changes and they'll be fine.

thank u sarah88 as i use reg table salt when things go the wrong way and aquarium salt during WC..just wanted to clear any mis-haps! :)
