gymnotus carapo - first time keeper help me:D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok
There is no problem with setting up a tank just for them. i can do that. and fatten up the carapo to a large size.

i can make sure that the ornate is not with the carapo...
and plenty of hiding and wont put the carapo with them until they are large enough.

i might grow out a few carapo.
if you grow them out together in the same tank from young, that would make it better for them to get along when older?

i would like a few in a tank if i can. if not then just one will be fine i guess.

tell me, what is the growth rate of the carapo?
also, hardiness?
are they a robust fish?

Growth would depend on tank size, food and regular water change as well as tank temp. And yes they are hardy but not robust. Mine are still 10" and are just a lil' bit thicker than a pen, around the belly area is the thickest.

mmmm.
so they dont seem to be the realy fast growers that CK and RCk are.

Nope. As I said before don't compare to CK or RCK. Even with the name knifefish on them they are not even closely related. CK and RCK are featherfin knifefish and are bonytounge and are closely related to arowanas. Carapos are more closely related to BGK which are part of the nakedback knifefish.

its bizzare. there really isnt much info on the carapo online.
i google GYMNOTUS CARAPO and BANDED KNIFE FISH and zebra and tiger comes up ...not banded carapo.
weird.
any more links would be awesome.
videos too.

when they arrive i will asses what size and how i will come about housing them.

any pics of them from people on here would be awesome.
videos too of them feeding and with other fish

yeah i have seen those two.
wanted more lol those are the first 3 google results.
but when i research i usually read multiple articles to get a good spread.
