H. Bocourti variants

mine only show the strips when he is mad,other than that he stays a solid orangish yellow color,the female never shows strips at all,could that be the difference?

Bocourti are so rare in nature we are lucky to have them in the hobby, as far as I know they are all orange and I have never seen any that look very much different from any others out there. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/cic_bocourti.php

Interesting how bocourti are considered a "cryptic" species by ichthyologists due to their extreme rarity in the wild, but there are plenty of large wild specimens in the hobby. I have to wonder sometimes. Even my LFS is advertising wild bocourti right now.

Nonetheless, and no matter where they come from, this is a great species! Great pics in this thread!

i had a hard time finding them for a while(like two years)now it seems like they are all around. I think it is probably a good thing they are showing up a bit in the hobby,they are a great fish to have a in any collection.Here is my female finally caught a pic of her.
