I have seen video of cichlid dojo's housing a group of 14 x 3-4" carpintis together in a 100gal (I think) until pairs formed. He also kept a smaller group in a 180gal for couple of years. Is this an anomalous outcome, or commonly reproducible? Is it possible to keep 2 pairs for instance in a 6' 1215gal?

Just to be clear ..the term escondito is a legitimate Mexican location variant (a real cichlid) and has nothing to do with a
BP,
a BP is a man induced mutation frankenfish, and to me, not legitimate,
in my books, a fake non cichlid.

I believe that the actual location of where this strain originated from, was Laguna Escondida , Mexico. Note dida, not dido. Not sure how or why that got changed, maybe sounded sexier, like the blood, in blood parrot, aka BP. Lol

Or maybe some gringo just got things lost in translation?

Either way, thank goodness the hybrid police are out on patrol. Lol

From link above…….

“I spent most of yesterday looking and from all the maps I've looked at (and from natural range maps for carpintis) I think I have a likely location. Laguna La Vega Escondida is a lagoon near the mouth of the Panuco river. Rapps got his originally from Conkel and Conkel has had carpintis from the lagoon across the river from Laguna La Vega Escondida. It's a lot of correlation and guesswork but it's by far the most likely guess I have.

Edit: talked to Mr. Conkel and it looks like I guessed correctly! Sorry for dragging you all along that personal journey”

Thx RD. RD. I like stories of personal journeys 🤙🏼
I think if my 2 don’t look or act like they’re gonna pair up in the next month or so, I will move them on a hopefully be able to buy a bonded pair from a bloke w pairs in Lima, 2 hours up the road from me 🤙🏼

Unfortunately the cichlidae site is long gone. Lots of good 1st hand info could be gleaned from that site. Bummer that your fish aren’t pairing up yet, but there’s still hope. Good luck.

Thanks mate! I hope they do!
It’s a shame when whole sites filled w great info disappear into the abyss. The trophs.com & cyphos.com sites were the same 😞
