H. carpintis spawn, round 2.

Well, my H. carpintis pair did successfully rear a nice brood of about 75 fry. I don't have pics at the moment, I'm away on business and my wife has been "taking care of them".

Unfortunately she just shared the news that the female is dead. Eyes missing, half buried in sand and jammed in a crack in a rock. She indicated she had been acting differently, hanging out near the surface corners of the tank. She saw the male go after her a couple of times but nothing too serious. I warned her that he had turned on her, and sure enough, the next morning she was a goner.

This is my first pair of carpintis. Is this typical? My tank is 75gal, there is good structure for hiding, a school of dithers, and the carpintis are small (<4"). What could we have done? Should I have removed the male after the successful spawn?
