H. Cyanoguttatus or H. Carpintus? Help IDing Texas cichlid

A 75 is perfect to keep as a wet pet. He'll be very happy there. BTW, there is nothing wrong with hybrids. He's a good looking fish, just if you ever breed him make sure to sell his fry as a hybrid or just don't sell his fry.

Thats a solid carpinti. Not a hybrid.. If it is it wouldnt be so solid.. These are active and fun fish to watch. They look awesome when dominant mood and own the tank. Can be all day glass bangerss as adults in the right environment.

I think for now 75g is great. But as adults, I think 100g for single male or 125g for pair

Agreed. Definitely carpintis and these guys can get mean. My dominant male challenges mammons that are easy 3x his size. 75g would probably be okay IMO but a little larger wouldn't hurt, 90g would be preferred. Otherwise, your carpintis is looking beautiful! Nice score.

if it is a Wild caught fish, U can take it as a Strain of Carpinti(because it looks different from others).

a hybrid ; thats what I think I see.

I know for sure Carpinti is there because the worm pattern on the forehead and it is Blue and yellow base. But I never seen pure Carpintis with pearls that small.

but why is she like a red texas in the first picture? May she is RT but the Carpinti+texas took 110% domination in the fish as she grew??

How old how big?

I thought it was a male. I had to post two times to get the more recent pics up there. There is a large nuchal hump on it...I assumed that meant it to be male, plus it has some pretty hefty sized jowls.

I think it is about 4 years old and is about 9".

Looks Carpintis to me and a 75g would be fine.

Love all the great input. Purchased a 75 gallon and just filled it up. I do not plan on breeding this one, so from all the great input in think should suffice as a wet pet sanctuary. If he gets too big, the stand a hood will always accommodate a 90 gallon later on.

NixMix's fish is a Green Texas. Done.

It looks red sometimes because that's how young Green Texas look, sometimes, depending on the species. And also when they're older as well, sometimes they can have the coloration.
