Just got 2 of these wild caught fasciatus on Monday. First time purchasing an African cichlid. Is this what they look like at 2.5-3”. Have them separated. They eating anything I throw in there. They had a black bar running across the body, but it’s gone now.

I've never kept or seen them in person, but google images shows them having 5 spots like yours 🤷‍♂️
Did you get them from a reputable supplier?

Ya he’s an importer of rare fish. My lights are dim in all tanks and sumps so it’s hard to get an idea of their color. They do look like young fasciatus. I looked into thysochromis, but them fish only get 3-3.5” and have color at that size. Ima put the 2 together and see what they do tomorrow.

All the fasciatus I have seen had a more pointy snout at that size. Also that only the third point/bar (counting from the tail) is faded is typical for Thysochromis.

Not necessarily. They show colours when they are in the mood. They also can totally fade to grey.

But time will tell. Fingers crossed that they are fasciatus.
