thats a very good looking choco, its show good parenting :D

Thanks, man, but a lot of it is just good bloodlines. Louie was bred by a local breeder here in NJ.

They had 2 Chocolates at the same size in the LFS when I bought Louie. The one from the wholesaler was $25, and Louie was $50. As much as I hated to pay $50 for a 3" fish, the difference between the two fish was that drastic, even at only 3". I now feel $50 was a good price now that he has matured and I see how quality looking he is compared to some of other Chocolates I have seen.

Very nice growth. He's turning in to a very beautiful fish.

gorgeous and very underrated cichlid in my opinion. These fish don't necessarily scream color but the colors they have are blended in such a unique way and thats what makes them so special to me anyway.

nice, chocs are now officially on my "to get list"

Just realize most of the ones we see in the hobby aren't this red form, which is too bad. The red form ones like Cookie's are deffinately beautiful cichlids, but just are so rarely seen. If they were the more common form, chocolates would be a lot more popular than they are.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone.

He is still growing so his body shape will change a lot more in the next months. I just measured him last night and got 9" head to tip of tail. It's been pretty cool to watch him grow so quickly and I'm happy he's maintained his personality throughout tank changes and all.

Chocolates IME are really personable with their owners (from what I hear, they closely resemble a Oscars personality). Mine comes out to greet and watch me all the time, and lets me watch him really closely and mimics my movements left/right, up/down.

Chocolates are also fun to watch because their colors change with their mood. Most of the time I see him he is a dark red to purple. When he displays, stretches or is just having fun around the tank he gets his green body colors on, with a black stripe and spot. And, when stressed he turns all kinds of psychedelic colors-reds/purples with yellows/tans stripes and blotches of green and black. I wish my camera could pick up half the colors as they appear under the tank lights. I often just watch him and find myself let out a "whoa, cool". lol.

The ONLY downside to this fish is that he is a poop machine. But, I imagine most fish his size produce about the same amount of waste. He is nice enough to always put his poop in a pile in the same area of the tank. :)

If you ever see one in person, they automatically get added to that list on personality alone.

I've seen plenty in person, i just don't have the room right now. but yes, the ones i have cared for did have nice personalities
