ok! ok! I think our kids should get the H1N1 shots when they come in. thinking how my daughter in the 2nd grade went thru this past feb. she had hi-grade fever for 3days str8, motrin/tylenol only short relief then it spiked again, hi of 105, a very scary time. weut were prescribed tamiflu which helped a bit. I, my son & my mom (grandma) took it as preventative but my wife & step-dad did not - fortunately for all of us none of us contracted the flu of any kind.

& even tho the whole 4th grade contracted it during the same time period, T.G. no tragedies occurred. schools were not shut down, unlike the panic in NYC (we live upstate NY). but had we had a serious incident we would have made headline news also. so this coming flu season promises to be another tough time.

anyone on the fence about it should view this article.

Yeah but the vaccine is killing people too. 25 so far and many more with signs of neurological disorders. 1 in 1000 people die from H1N1 while 1 in 100,000 die from the vaccine. Sounds safe enough, huh? But consider that over 100x more people are scheduled to get the vaccine than would ever get the virus if not vaccinated.

I may not have stated that so eloquently, but I hope you get the idea.

i just heard they are all out of regular flu shot vaccine.. here in upstate ny

if if we wanted to get the H1N1 vaccine it's not even available yet! & our pediatrician just called saying the reg. flu vaccine has been exhausted! when more will come in they can't tell us!!

One link is bad. Read the other one, and would like to point this out:

A recent report from the CDC found that one-third of pediatric deaths from the H1N1 virus were in children like Max, with no known underlying condition that would put them at risk.

Read that another way, it says that TWO THIRDS (Over half) of the kids were already sick.

The swine flu is not that bad. If your kid is healthy, let them be kids. Let them get sick, and build up their natural immunity.

try this link everyone. the issue parents like myself face is weighing the risk of no vaccine & play the odds of either escaping illness or if we catch it the effect will be mild - but risk the ever so possible risk of something G.Forbid something worst.

or get the vaccine & play the odds of adverse reaction no matter what the probability is, & hope the vaccine works (or at least mitigate the impact of it)

so here's the choice

1. opt out of the vaccine risk possible death no matter how small this probability may be (you wouldn't want to be the one in the small minority affected).

& seemingly healthy kids with no known underlying health conditions are now dying - i.e. recent case where H1N1 caused an inflamation of the filial in the lungs which resulted in pneumonia which resulted in quick death.

or

2. take the vaccine & be protected up to a certain degree & live with the risk of any adverse reaction (some cases resulted in death but also a small %).

so gives one much to think about - risk illness & maybe maybe suffer serious illness or even death or give your loved ones a chance at possible protection against the H1N1 virus.

so you decide. I have made our decision. But then again, there is no/low supply of either the reg. or H1N1 here in Orange County NY so we are doing our best to keep hygienically clean.

btw - it is rare to develop immunities from the flu bug, that is why it is still recommended to get the reg. flu shot as well as the H1N1. so don't believe if you caught it last yr. that you have enough or strong enough anti-bodies developed. I know of real live cases where a family got the flu shots last yr but contracted the flu this yr b-4 they were able to get the new shots.

not a fan of flu vaccinations, my son already most likely had H1N1 this year so theres his shot right there. There are so many strains of flu, if you or your kid is healthy I don't see validity to getting it. People die of all different starins of the flu to underlying complications that become exacerbated. Flu shot related death stats are not accurate, people did all the time and sometimes that happens after getting a flu shot they can not always directly link the two.

I have never had a flu shot and I worked in a daycare for two years. Stomach viruses and Strep always get, they get a vaccine for those and I'll consider it.

wow, just re-read my post and my apologies for not proofing it before hitting the submitt button, hopefully you can decipher my gibberish. Boss was walking towards me and I jumped the gun.
