Had a horrible New Years. Please help.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
have you tried holding him in the clean water stream coming out of the filter? or near the top of the water where the air bubbles are, like where the air bubbles from the foam filters reach the surface?

damage was prolly already done. You are doing all you can. Sorry

My girlfriend and I came home last night at 3am to one of our bass on the floor. I guess I forgot to put the cover back on the tank. After scooping him up I realized he was dry as a bone. Thought he would never make it so I was thinking of just pitching him. But I put him straight into the tank and started reviving him. Amazingly he started breathing and after about an hour of revival he swam under his own power.

I am so happy that one of my buddies didnt die. My girlfriend was crying her eyes out.

So the question for you guys is what should I do for him to help him out. His fins look all messed up like they are missing the webbing on the end of them. And it looks like his slime coat is all messed up, he has white splotches all over him and you can see where the coating has come off.

Please help guys I want him to bounce back from this asap. Thank you so much.

Happy New Year

Rob
I'd do nothing except keep the water in good condition. Anything else you do could cause stress, I'd just let him recover.

Speaking with experience of VERY similar sounding situation with a Synodontis Catfish that jumped onto the floor and split it's fins to shreds before covering itself with cat fur. He fully recovered and all I did was my regular maintenance.

Well sorry guys but we just lost him about 5 minutes ago. Girlfriend is taking it pretty bad, I think she liked him more than me some how.

He was doing great for 24hrs, then all of a sudden he got all bloated and couldnt keep upright. From what Ive researched it seems like he got a bacterial infection. He was fully bloated from start to finish with in 4hrs, and dead within another 6.

Im really pissed off at myself, and cant believe this happend. I hope I can find a replacement soon who fits in. Gonna be hard since all my local fish stores have little tinny monos.

Should I worry that he will kill my other fish? I found some nasty pink and yellow stuff on the bottom of the tank, scooped it out quickly but pretty grose.

might not be a bad idea to change the water now i would have said add stress coat from api it helps to rebuild the lost slime coat from a fish thats been handled the stuff works miracles sorry im too late though
