Well I came home today and was going to go feed the fish. First on my list was the Cenicichla proteus/ convict tank. I'm looking into the tank and I see the male convict surounded by a cloud of fry. I was a little surprised, as the pike normally takes care of them as soon as they are free swimming. So I keep looking to find the female(she is usually right there with the fry too. I see the male convidt the pike is hiding in her pot for some reason, but no female(starting to think the male killed her:( ). So I keep looking. All of the sudden the pike comes out and shows me were the convivt was... IN HER MOUTH!:nilly: I managed to net the pike and get the convict out her mouth, surprisingly with little damage. I think the pike took more damage from the male convict when she had her mouth full with the female. I figured this should be documented and snapped a few pics. Not the best pics as I only took about 20 seconds to take them. Needless to say, I had an interesting afternoon so far.

holy crap! is she still alive?

Yeah, she is hearding her school of fry around like nothing happened. The pike on the other hand took a beating (from the male convict) when she had the convict in her mouth. And she has a few little cuts in her mouth, but I think she will be fine.

That brings a new meaning to ' Nice Save' .

For real.

Is it wrong that the is the best laught I've had so far this week?
Not out of the suffering and absolute fear that con must've gone through but I just couldn't help but imagine that the pike really was going after the fry. Mom only got in the way.
Hope mom's ok. They're not still going to be kept together are they?

Oh, beleive me... I got a kick out of it. I was just so amazed. I never thought she would get snagged by the pike. I have seen this little con beat the hell out of this pike. Guess times have changed. They are still in the same tank, but I divided them up. When I took the convict out of the pikes mouth they were both floating in my net at the surface of the water and the pike grabbed her again. Thats when I knew I needed to bust out the eggcrate. I also think the pike was going in for the fry. And I know the little female con isn't going to let anyone near her little babies...enless they eat her!

Well, I just looked in the tank. No more convict fry, and the pike is sulking around in her flower pot looking half dead. Man that sucked.
