Had my first PetSmart fish purchase experience today!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Petsmart is wack, at least the one near me is. I applied there, because I need a job desperately, they were hiring, and Im young, so I figured it might be a good place to apply to. I put in the application online as told. I've worked with horses and have owned just about every domesticated animal, plus some. I even called a couple of times to show interest. Still, nothing!! They probably hired an employees friend who has less experience than I do. I do accredit them to stopping me from buying a goldfish a couple years ago when I first got into fishkeeping.

Same for the one by me, I've applied twice when they were hiring and it seems they always hire the inexperienced people. Today I seen another 'hiring' sign in the petsmart so I think I'll try again to see what happens.
I do have to say the petsmart I go to keep their fish healthy. Better than having to buy fish at walmart imo.

The thing I like best about PetSmart is the ornaments and artificial driftwood that they stock. Its still too expensive for me to buy but great selection nonetheless.

As a rule, limit trying to tell them you think you know all about fish. They hire people in and train them their way. It's easier to teach an inexperienced person initially then to break bad habits. Plus a lot of managers are insecure and don't hire people that may know more about the subject.

Sounds like pretty good advice.

I was thinking it must have been something like that.

The PetSmart I shop at they know me now. But when I first started buying Roseys there I'd buy 200 at a time. They'd think I was joking 200 really? really? they pause just to make sure they heard it right. The people I've talked to they all keep fish. Not rare fish just common bread and butter fish. When I tell them about my fish they never heard of them or know what they look like. There just trained to asked those questions. Even now they still asked me then say oh you know what your doing never mind.

From what i can see petsmart hires kids at minimum wage. Most of the time they dont Care about Fish they just wanna earn money for prom or a car. We take this hobby seriously. To them its just a job. Not saying this is always the case but seems to be the way it is.

Not by me, they refuse to hire me knowing that I am a wildlife bio major and the proud owner of 4 tanks.
