my 13'x13' bedroom has 3 running AC500s (Ac110s) and a penguin mini. The only noise comes from the water splashing.

Now that I think about it I've never heard my AC110 without my air pump running ( Rena 400 ). Just assumed it was noisy because it's so big.

My bio wheel would make a annoying splashing noise every few minutes. drove me crazy so I gave it away.

This was a interesting read, I think Ill try my filters without Carbon an see how they do.

I had read that carbon dust can be a cause of HITH with Tangs. I personally never had problem with carbon and HITH but I also rinse my carbon a good amount before using.

Back to the filter question, AC all the way. As others have stated above, more water flow and more media surface area for the water to pass through/over. Plus one of the biggest complaints I have from my customers is that the bio-wheel doesn't always spin.

For years I ran AC 200/50's on my 10 gallon salt tanks and they worked wonderful. Wouldn't go any other way.

i have both an emperor and an aquaclear. Aquaclear beats it by far in my opinion

i want to upgrade the filter on my 29 gallons right now i have a whisper power 30 on it and im looking at either the aqua clear 70(300gph) or the emperor 280(280gph) i dont know which one to pick i like the bio-wheel but ive heard aqua clears are really good filters which one do u prefer?
Aqua clear hands down.I hate biowheels.I have tested many emperors, they can't stand up to the fish i own.

You would have only tested (2) emperors and I don't consider that "many emperors". Marineland only makes two Emperor series filters ( Emperor 280 and 400).

Emperors provide awesome biological filtration from the biowheels. I too have tested the AquaClear and was not impressed whatsoever.

It is just a matter of personal preference.

I say the aqua clears. I have 2 AC70s 1 on my 29g and 1 on my 100g. I am considering getting a AC110 for the 100g just to up the filtration. i think they are great. clears cloudy water fast. SOOOOO easy to clean. pull out one basket, throw away or wash medai and put back.
