I have heard that tanks are a precious commodity on the islands...

I hope your just joking, LOL. On a few trips that ive gone to the mainland, i cant belive some of the questions i get asked after telling them i live in hawaii. For example, while visiting my grandparent's someone asked me what kind of money we used in hawaii, and even why im wearing normal clothes. I didnt even respond. All i tell them is its the same exact thing as where you live, but way nicer.

The person I heard that from lived there as well. Oh well...
Aquariums are imported from the mainland, right? That alone would make them more expensive I would think.

It is funny calling a 10gallon rare.

Not to much more as in cost. Just to clear this up, aquariums arent rare here. Theres lot of local fish stores and pet stores that sell fish. Most likely just like your LFS except for some species of fish because of laws. The tanks in the stores are usually up to 200, but i havent seen any above that in a LFS.

Found Another. The pacu is the most sad thing ive ever seen.

POST:
Fish Tanks + fish - 55gal and 65gal - $200 (Schofield)

I have 2 Fish tanks for Sale plus the fish inside them. first tank is a 55gal. it is currently housing a Oscar and Clown knife (both around 6 to 8 inches in length). second tank is a 65gal hex currently housing a Pacu (8-10 in.) im asking for $200 for everything or best offer. im also willing to sell everything separate (please leave your offers - fish willing to sell cheap, they need a good home) Note: pacu and oscar do NOT get along.

I would say that large tanks are. AFAIK there aren't any LFS that sell tanks in the 240+ range. The store I work at only will bring in 220 at the max, and just to give some idea of what the exorbitant cost is like here, the 180s we sell cost a little over $900.

Yea, the tank prices arent bad untill you get to the bigger sizes. I was looking around for a 240 for awhile but no luck. Thats why i built a plywood tank. Where do you work?
