Algae scraper, mag-float

I would just use a scraper if it was on the glass, but it isn't. The algae only grows on the live rock.

I change about 20% of the water once a week, so the nitrates aren't out of control. They are a little high, so are the phosphates, so I'm pretty sure they are the cause of it. I don't have the money to invest in an RO unit, so what other options do I have to get rid of this stuff?

are you using a canister? would sanils work? and depending on take size tang or foxface could help

It's a 40 breeder. I'm using a fluval 404 canister filter.

As far as fish, I've got a black volitan lion, a snowflake eel and a spotted grouper. All of them are pretty small right now, but eventually I'm going to be moving them into a 240.

I don't want to add a tang or foxface because they aren't really something I want to keep permanantly. Do snails eat hair algae?

agreed, get your water moved to a pure source, vs tap water, and you should see a drastic decrease in algae growth. You must keep up on water changes to keep the levels down as they climb naturaly.
