I have a 40 gallon HEAVILY planted community tank that has started to develop a serious case of hair algae. It's right next to a window. I was using flourish excel and co2 and that was preventing algae but I stopped using them and it started growing like crazy. If I start using excel again, will the algae go away? Or now that it's already established am i in trouble?

What kind of fish do you have in the tank? Mollies are great for hair algae. They will eat it right down.

Mollies would be compatible for the most part though they would overstock my tank.. I already have some livebearers and otos and bristlenose plecos, you'd think they'd be doing the job, but I have discus in there so I tend to feed very often and they're content with the scraps from that.

And most typical algae eating fish wont eat hair algae. Mollies eat all day long. Just up your water changes for a couple weeks and throw a couple mollies in. They are VERY light on the bioload.

I dunno if they're that light.. they **** a lot like goldfish and they get like 6 inches long. Also they're ugly and mean. I might get some if I decide to set up a brackish tank but I don't want to subject my peaceful community to they're bullying. I'm gonna try co2 hopefully it will work.

I'm not sure you're thinking of mollies. They get only 3", 4" TOPS. And they are some of the most peaceful fish you can get. Not aggressive at all.

And in a heavily planted tank, more poop is desirable as it feeds the plants.
