you caaaaarazzzzzzy! :screwy:

you do realize it will drain all the nutrients from your tank if its salt your corals will die, aslo no matter what kinda tank it is, it will cause all your other plants to die out. but good luck with it!

No salt or corals here and I have no live plants in the tank I'm thinking about growing the hair algae in. :)

thats not true, algae uses mostly nitrogen compounds and phosphorus

if its overrunning your tank you should be worried about a "crash" thats when most or all of the algae dies and ruins the water quality.

the only time algae will will kill plants and corals is when it grow ON them.

i don't know exactly how to do it but high phosphates lead to all sorts of algae. also try leaving the lights on 24-7 and put aquatic fertilizer in i know there is a phosphorus additive you can get this might do the trick. most people try to avoid this do you have something specific in mind to do with the hair algae?

i wouldnt leave the light on 24/7 if you have fish in the tank

fish need sleep too ya know :grinyes:

This might sound crazy but I really like the way hair algae looks and I would like to grow some. I can't find any information on growing hair algae because most people want to get rid of it. Ideas?

Howdy,

As a matter of fact, hair algae is a sign of extremely good water quality. As compared to other algae, it grows well in (comparatively) low "waste"-nutrient conditions. Frequent, moderate water changes will help you grow it, in combinattion with this product: Dupla Plant 24. This is a high quality liquid fertilizer, great product. If you use a little too much, though, you'll grow hair algae (provided the frequent, low volume water changes and enough light and the right spectrum. Make sure you have new light bulbs for freshwater plant growth).

my friend gets it ... so i put a rock in his tank.. when it grows there ima move it to my tank

Find somebody with a pond, (or just use a bucket in your backyard w/ a goldfish or two), place a piece of driftwood in it and then came back in a month or two and you should have some nice hair. :)

dont forget to show us some pics!
