Hait or beani?

Sorry didnt mean to word it that way. I ment in a individual fish the personality is a big one for me.
Example: I have a midas that is not as orange as I would like him to be and midas are very common but I am reluctent to give him away because he is uniquely much wider and thick at 4 inch then most of the midas I have kept at that size, and he eats everything and anything and is very responsive to me. So im not saying beani have no personality cause you could have two beani and they can act like two different fish. Im just saying put the TYPE of species it is aside for a sec and ask your self which fish you A like to look at and B which one has more peraonality and that will be more fun to keep and if you will get bored of it.

Thats how I do it, good luck!
I completely agree with you. I don't care about how rare a fish is or what color. If it is a huge glassbanger that instantly goes to the glass begging for food like crazy, then he stays.

I haven't kept either of the fish mentioned here, but I would make my decision on which one gets bigger and which one is more of a glassbanger and has great personality.

I haven't chimed in yet because I think both species are great.
I do find haitiensus to be more outgoing and get larger, but the heat needs to be up there in the 80sF, and they really shouldn't be kept in a tank under 100plus gallons.
My male hit over 14", and the female was no slouch either.
In the your pic, I see female traits

Beani are slower growers and seem to me, to top out a bit smaller, so might be OK in a tank a bit smaller possibly an 80.
I have a 7-8" male with a small female (divided for the moment) in an 80 gal long (6ft tank), temps in the high 60s/low 70sF

male above, female below

hmmm, you think the Hait is possibly a female huh? Dont really want a female to be honest with you. I have a second hait that is much smaller that grew up with it until recently. Might get rid if the big Hait now and keep the Beani and the small hait.

I would go with Beani i love mine, Got 3 small ones from Dan ( cichlidsoftheamericas ) at about 2,5-3 inches they are not the least skittish and when the light hits them just right there colors are really amazing

yeah the beani is pretty awesome lookin, you guys aren't makin' this any easier. It is looking more and more like I will retain the beani cichlid and let the Hait go.
