Hi there....... I have seen many combos of fish on this site but I have never
seen a med. to full grown haitiensis living with any other fish....
Some of the pic's i have seem make me think that they are in a class with
Dovies and Umbies......
Has any one seen a large hait co exist with other fish??
My 600gal is set up but I am not getting fish until spring......
I originally wanted this tank for one pair of haits and about two or three
paires of Red terrors......( there are many caves in the tank )
What are your thoughts or experience with this?????? Thanks

Its possible in a large tank. I'd try to get the haits to be larger than festae And try to raise them together from at least 3-4". In my experience it didn't work depending on size one species would try to kill the other.Good luck and keep us posted. Remember anything is possible, but be prepared to male adjustmens as things progress

my festas have never been able to live with my black nastys they always get killed, i have one black nasty in a tank with about 15 dovii the black nasty runs the show but they are small 2-3 inches . tried keeping my large male black nasty in one of my goby tanks but i didnt work my large male marbled goby beat up the blach nasty so much at night it would be terrified all day

IMO Black Nasty are just as aggressive as Dovii or Umbee, but Black Nasty comes with too much bagagge... They can quickly become stressed... Which causes bloat... You have to consider housing it with cichlids that won't challenge them... If they are not in charge, it they are more acceptible to bloat from stress.

Black Nasty very aggressive cichlid, but will bloat if you don't be careful of what you house with them...

Although you may have a chance with the 600 gallon tank. I think it would be nice to have a black nasty pair in the same tank with a festae pair, although, I have never seen it done before...

So I think you are saying to have the Black Nastys a bit larger than the
terrors and let them grow together so the Nastys are always dominant
and let the Festaes live...is this correct?????

Can I ask what size tank, caves,sizes,etc...that the terrors were killed in?
Nastys dominating Dovies......I thought I was thinking in the right direction...
of course full grow might be different..........
Fresh water goby I know nothing about but they sound very tough!!!!!
Thanks

I thing I agree......there must be a way to do it from the start????
I noticed you have Beanies.....IYO would this combo ( Terrors & Beanies)
have a better chance of co-existance????????

Alright..... So the question is still open.....
I have seen Dovies,Umbies with other fish when large...
Has anyone seen a Black Nasty live with other fish when large?????????

I have tried a Black Nasty, Beani, Grammodes, Festae, Motaguense, Escondido, Pink Fenestratum, all about 3 to 4 inches in a 360 gallon tank. I also have a 100 gallon tank, so if any combination would work I would switch them around until I could get the right combo... It just never worked no matter what I tried.

Beacause I was aware of the stress/bloat that the Black Nasty and Beani would be accecptable to, I would try and make sure that they were the larger two of all and that there was my landscape would provide a good escape/hiding areas... I really take pride in landscaping/aquascaping of my tanks...

Anyway my Black Nasty and Beani ended up bloating... I lost the Beani first. What I noticed was that the Black Nasty and Beani where in charge, but not totally, they always had to what there back, sort of speak... I really liked all the cichlids mentioned and had a very nice tank for a while, but just couldn't keep the Black Nasty and Beani from bloating.

I have another Beani now and keep him away from any other cichlid and he is doing well :) By the way all the cichlids mentioned are some of my favorites, I thought by having such a big tank that I could make it all work, but I haven't had any luck on a community tank with such aggressive cichlids, although that don't mean it could never happen...
I would just be careful with Black Nasty and Beani... Very nice cichlids, but you really have to spoil them more than you do the other cichlids.

As far as having the Beani be larger than the Festae, it still my not work because the Festae is very aggressive also and will grow eventually and chanlenge the Black nasty every chance he or she gets. Of course the bigger your tank, the better your chances... IMO you will need a bigger tank then my 360. Also It would probably be better to have dither in your tank as well (silver dollars, tin foil barbs, etc...)

Can you keep me posted, I am interested to see how it works for you :)
