Unfortunately the haitiensis died from bloat probably 3 weeks after the first shots were taken. I did what I could, but it wasnt enough they both refused to eat. Ill try them again sometime, when I have more room and time.

looking good man..... I will have some haits for sale in a couple months if your in the market. I have some smaller Umbies for sale now 2.5-3.5" for sale now once you get him transfered over to the 125g

Thanks, Ill keep you in mind once I get this guy moved.

Im not really sure what I did wrong with the haitiensis. I kept the water really warm, frequent water changes, and kept them away from high protein foods. Got any pointers?

I wish I did man I am new to them myself. Best you can do it what your doing frequent water changes, high temp, and throw some salt in every water change. Feeding every couple days also might be a good idea with Haits

If you try to raise haitiensis again, you should try splitting them up with dividers and put some very small non aggressive dithers into each section along with structures so the haitiensis can hide in. My friend was raising a haitiensis, and at the beginning it was fine when it was divided up for about a month, then he put the haitiensis into his 240 with other fish and it died from bloat.

The more I hear the more it sounds like haits getting bloat has as much or more to do with stress than with food and water parameters....

100% correct.

I've fed mine really high protein food and usually have temperatures in the low to high 70s. No bloat issues. I think that's a hard myth to kill (the diet/temperature aspect), but it's dying slowly.
